With the possible exceptions of tax audits, ingrown toenails, termite infestations, beer shortages, and Bubonic Plague, there is little that rattles webmasters more than the notion of a new network design.
Well, color me rattled.
Last night, Wednesday, BerniesInsiders.com joined the rest of The Insiders network in welcoming a new layout and design for most of our pages.
You will notice a substantially different look for the front page of BerniesInsiders.com, incorporating new graphical elements, a different layout, new ad formats (everyone loves ads!) and some changes to content.
We are aware that a large number of pages have links in funny and repulsive (i.e., not brown and orange) colors, and we plan on fixing that.
There are lots of other things that were tweaked, mangled, broken or otherwise blown up when the new layout was switched on. I'll be saturating myself in caffeine, rather than the usual fine lagers, and going about trying to clean it up.
What you are seeing right now is essentially the "plain vanilla" version of the new network design for TheInsiders, and we will be working to re-install some of the features you liked about the old design.
While the new design will take some getting used to, there are some good things about it.
For one thing, the new design should load a lot faster. New stories should be easier to spot - there were some things in the old version that required you to manually refresh the page if you visited several times a day. We're also switching to a new font on our stories that should be easier to read.
There will also be greater consistency when you go from site to site within the network. While a lot of people liked our old design, it was based on a lot of coding and hacking that other sites in the network couldn't implement. Now, you will hopefully see that the rest of the network looks a lot like BerniesInsiders.com and vice versa. .. and it will also be easier to find stories on the other AFC North and NFL sites on TheInsiders network.
We know that it's a big change. Hopefully, the new look will grow on you over the coming days.
Please feel free to contact us with your thoughts about the new look - good, bad, or indifferent - and please feel free to offer any feedback that you have or point us to any broken pages.
If you've made it this far, I have only one more thing to say:
The Steelers Suck.
