The Visitors: Part Three

Our third report on players who have worked out for the Browns or visited the Berea facility focuses on another potential top pick who has risen quickly this off-season...

Kamerion Wimbley is another well-known target of the Browns, being not only a potential pick at #12 for the team, but also having visited the club in March. Wimbley joins Brodrick Bunkley as a Florida State product that the team really likes, and could very well be the team's #1 pick in on April 29th.

Wimbley secured a spot as a defensive end for his final year at Florida State during the Seminoles spring practices, where he was named the team's outstanding player. Continuing his strong performance into the season. Wimbley finished with eleven tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks... numbers he accumulated despite losing three games due to a knee injury.

While injuries and second-team status slowed him down prior to this draft period, there was nothing to stop Wimbley's rapid ascent up draft boards starting with the Senior Bowl. Scouts from Cleveland quickly noticed Wimbley's explosiveness of the edge, which could be put to good use as an outside linebacker in a 3-4 system.

While Wimbley's size is smallish for a defensive end, where he would sometimes get swallowed up by more capable blockers, but very much in the range for the "tweener" types Crennel wants to get on the edges of the linebacking corps. Wimbley has played with his hand down for the most part, so he will need to adjust to the new role. If he can get a little bit stronger and stay away from the injury bug, Wimbley could turn into a terror for opposing quarterbacks.
