There will be a continuing theme among most of the running backs the Browns were interested in this off-season. They tend to be small, quick, and have good hands. None of them project to be every-down ball carriers.

In other words, after several years of neglect, the Browns are serious about getting a third-down back in this year's draft. This is a special type of runner the Browns haven't really had since Jamel White left the franchise and, before then, ex-Niner third-down back Terry Kirby.

Leon Washington fills the bill. After a stellar campaign as a junior (138 carries, 951 yards), Washington came back down to earth hard with a 97-carry, 430 yard season as a senior. Of more importance to the Browns, perhaps, Washington also had 25 catches for 267 yards and a touchdown.

Washington was referred to by Scout.com draft guru Tony Pauline as "more quick than fast", a shifty runner who can slice through opposing defenses but won't necessarily scamper for a touchdown when he does.

Another asset in Washington's favor: he's known as a team-first guy who would be a positive force in the locker room. We know how the Browns front office feels about players of that ilk: Leon Washington is a name to remember this weekend.
