Scoop: Whither Jeff Davidson?

The Cleveland Browns would like to see their young interim offensive coordinator return in 2007 to (at the very least) coach the offensive line, but that may not happen. Here's the latest we're hearing about the continuing fogginess of the Browns offensive coaching situation...

theobr.com has learned Cleveland Browns offensive line coach Jeff Davidson, whose contract with the team has expired, could be a candidate for either vacant offensive line or offensive coordinator jobs with the Carolina Panthers. While it's believed that the Browns want him back as their offensive line coach, Davidson may decide to look elsewhere for employment for the 2007 season and beyond.

Davidson, who took over the offensive coordinator job temporarily last season after Maurice Carthon "resigned", got an interview for the job recently but sources say that was out of courtesy and Davidson isn't believed to be a serious candidate for the job.

Davidson also could be a candidate for the Arizona Cardinals offensive line or offensive coordinator jobs should new head coach Ken Whisenhunt not retain current offensive line coach Steve Loney and offensive coordinator Mike Kruczek. Sources say that Whisenhunt is expected to make his decision on his coaching staff over the next few days.
