BEREA - Tim Couch has been downgraded from "probable" to "questionable" for Sunday's season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Browns are still saying they will probably go right up to the opening kickoff before making a decision on who will start
If you believe what most of his teammates had to say today in the locker room Thursday morning, they expect Couch will play. Couch tested his elbow Wednesday and is expected to share practice time with Kelly Holcomb running the first-team offense.
"I think Tim threw the ball pretty well," said Northcutt. "He didn't throw a lot, but he did enough. He looked good, and now it's just a matter of waiting to see what happens."
"Tim did everything we expected him to do in practice," said Johnson. "All indications is he is all right."
Carmen Policy's appearance on a local radio station Wednesday night offered a different hint regarding Couch's injury and who might play Sunday.
"We were told (by team doctors) don't rush him," said Policy. "This will prove beneficial the next two weeks."
