Sobodawg's Uncanny Mock

The man behind the OBR's year-round Draft Brew forum unleashes his latest mock draft, the 2007 Uncanny Mock! Here are three-rounds of prognostications, through the Browns pick in the fourth. Check it out...

1

Oakland

JaMarcus Russell

QB

LSU

Comments:  If the Raiders decide not to invest in a used Carr, quarterback is the ONLY option for them at this point with Russell being the consensus favorite.

2

Detroit

Gaines Adams

DE

Clemson

Comments: For once General Manager, Matt Millen, is being quite coy with his pick.  It certainly will not be another wide receiver.  What Head Coach, Rod Marinelli really wants is a pass rush for his Cover 2 scheme to work to its fullest.   There is no better pass rusher in this draft than Adams.

3

Cleveland

Brady Quinn

QB

Notre Dame

Comments: No pick makes more sense for Cleveland than Quinn.  The old adage is, "If you do not have a franchise QB, shutdown corner, or elite left tackle; then you do NOT pass on one".   The Browns have none of the above and can now restart from the top.  Quinn is the most mentally prepared quarterback in this class and will have an impact this season for a team desperately trying to break out of the basement.

4

Tampa Bay

Calvin Johnson

WR

Georgia Tech

Comments: The best player in the draft falls to no.4 and the Buccaneers would gladly snatch up this future prolific pass catcher.

5

Arizona

Joe Thomas

OT

Wisconsin

Comments: The easiest pick in the draft to predict if Thomas falls into the Cardinals collective laps.   They HAVE to protect the team's future in Matt Leinart and Edgerrin James.

6

Washington

Jamaal Anderson

DE

Arkansas

Comments: Gregg Williams' vaunted defense was not up to par last season and one of the main reasons was a lack of talent and pass rush up front along the defensive line.   Anderson has tons of potential and is still growing into a future fantastic defensive end at the next level.

7

Minnesota

Adrian Peterson

RB

Oklahoma

Comments:  Arguably the hardest pick to predict in the top 10, if not the entire first round.  Why Peterson when the Vikings just signed Chester Taylor last year?  Peterson brings the homerun threat Taylor lacks.  Also, Taylor was not able to handle the load Childress asked of him last season, wearing down toward the end.   A talented split back situation could dramatically help a struggling offense looking toward the future with a young quarterback.

8

Atlanta (from Houston)

LaRon Landry

S

LSU

Comments:  The Falcons have been looking for a solid safety tandem for years.  They settled on Chris Crocker to fill one spot last year and while solid, is not the future at the position.  Landry is a true difference maker out in the defensive secondary.

9

Miami

Levi Brown

OT

Penn St.

Comments: Whomever is at quarterback next year for the Dolphins will simply need better protection than they saw last season.  Enter the draft's second rated left tackle prospect to help fill the void.

10

Houston (from Atlanta)

Ted Ginn Jr.

WR

Ohio St.

Comments:  The Texans have been looking to find an compliment to Andre Johnson that last few seasons.   Eric Moulds did not pan out last season, so they look to address the position with one of the most gifted all around athletes in the draft even if he does not run before the event.
