High expectations will collide with unlikely dreams as Browns draft choices like Brady Quinn, Joe Thomas, and Eric Wright take the field with nine undrafted rookie free agents (UDFAs) and nearly three dozen tryout players at the Browns complex in Berea. Weather is expected to be sunny and pleasant for the practice, which will most likely be held outdoors.
The Browns class of rookie free agents is smaller than in the past, an indication that General Manager Phil Savage is happier with the bottom third of the roster than in recent years. The huge group of tryouts, whose names won't be announced until this afternoon, are just looking for a chance to catch the eye of a coach and get invited back to later OTA sessions and training camp. Most years, one or two of the tryout players have been able to make enough of an impression to get a longer look.
The practice session, at least the portion open to the media, is quite brief, running from 3-4PM this afternoon, followed by some question and answer time with head coach Romeo Crennel.
Regardless of the brevity, OBR publisher Barry McBride will be at the practice along with OBR photographer Jeffery Wills to record as much of it as we can. Expect as many reports, photos, and audio as we can put together later this afternoon. OBR contributor Jeff Schudel will also be at the practice, and will be able to answer subscriber questions about what happened in our exclusive Ask the Insider forums starting this evening.
The orange helmets will finally be back on the field this afternoon, and we'll bring you our impressions as fast as we can!
