It's just preseason, right?
We all know that success (or lack thereof) is not a barometer of what is going to happen in the regular season.
Or is it?
The fact that neither Charlie Frye nor Derek Anderson is reaching up to seize the starting QB job shows me exactly why Phil Savage so aggressively pursued Brady Quinn in this year's draft.
What is most disturbing to me is that the Browns two supposed best quarterbacks have produced 3 field goals in 15 possessions.
If Frye/Anderson can't punch it in the end zone against the super vanilla coverages they're seeing in the preseason, how are they going to do in the regular season?
Oh <insert expletive here> is what keeps going through my head.
Furthermore, they couldn't get a TD against the vanilla coverages of KANSAS CITY and DETROIT. Not exactly the "Steel Curtain" ---- more like the "Lace Curtain."
I fear that no matter how we slice it the Browns will be offensively challenged once again in the year 2007 and I tend to agree with Scout.com's Adam Caplan who is looking for around a 7-9 season at best.
Romeo Crennel and his staff better give serious consideration to playing Brady Quinn as the starting QB.
I'm not saying that because I'm jumping on the Quinn bandwagon. It's just becoming too apparent that neither Frye nor Anderson is a long-term solution at QB for the Browns.
When asked if Brady Quinn was entering the race for the starting job, Crennel said "I can't say that without looking at the tape," he said. "I still think he's a young quarterback with a limited offense and I believe in time he'll be a good quarterback. I've said all along we will see what the kid can do, and if he gets a grasp of the offense, then we'll let him do more."
Crennel better look at the tape of Frye and Anderson first because that's the real downer for the Browns entering the season.
Maybe Quinn will be a bust but you have to play him early because he's really the only hope the Browns have of finding a legitimate NFL QB.
The sooner we see what he can do, the better. We already know what Anderson and Frye can do.
