Browns-Seahawks: Fred's Game Notebook

Notes from the press box following the Browns overtime victory...

Jottings from the Game Notebook...

So Close: On the drive the Seahawks scored their game-tying field goal, a pass from QB Matt Hasselbeck should've been intercepted. LB Leon Williams and DB Eric Wright were the only two players that could've made the play on the ball, but they collided with each other and the ball fell incomplete.

K2: TE Kellen Winslow had 11 receptions for 125 yards to lead the Browns. It was his second 100-yard receiving game this season and the most receptions in a game in his career.

Tough Call: With the Seahawks facing third-and-three at the Browns' eight, it appeared the play clock expired before QB Matt Hasselbeck called timeout, but the officials granted the timeout and the Seahawks avoided a big five-yard penalty.

What's the Rush: The Browns failed to get to QB Matt Hasselbeck in the game. Hasselbeck was not pressured most of the game and he picked apart the Browns with a lot of underneath passes.

Phil's Flaw: K Phil Dawson missed the PAT after the Browns' first touchdown for his first miss on PAT's in 55 attempts. He redeemed himself with the 25-yard field goal in overtime for his ninth career game-winning kick.

McKinney Hurt: Starting RG Seth McKinney injured his left shoulder in the second half and did not return. He was first injured on the play before RB Jamal Lewis' second touchdown. He re-entered the game and then was taken to the sideline on the next possession. Lennie Friedman replaced him.

Alexander Hurt: RB Shawn Alexander suffered injuries to his knee and ankle in the first quarter on the Seahawks' first touchdown drive. His return was questionable, but he returned. He had five carries for nine yards and finished with 11 carries for 24 yards in the first half.

Grounded Game: The Browns had seven rushes in the first half for 9 yards, including a three-yard touchdown run by RB Jamal Lewis. He had all seven carries. Lewis scored his second touchdown of the game on a one-yard run in the third quarter. At that point, he had 13 carries for 19 yards and two touchdowns. He had 18 carries for 32 yards on his third score and finished with 20 carries for just 37 yards, but four touchdowns. He had three receptions for 51 yards.

He's a Thief: SS Sean Jones intercepted a pass by QB Matt Hasselbeck on the Seahawks' first possession and returned it 26 yards to the Browns' 48. Jones stepped in front of intended WR Bobby Engram.

Mistakes: The Browns stopped the Seahawks as DL Robaire Smith sacked QB Matt Hasselbeck, but the Browns were called for illegal substitution and gave the Seahawks a first down.

Peek-n-Peek: LB Antwan Peek batted down a pass by Hasselbeck on the first drive.

Inactives: For the Browns: DB Kenny Wright, DB Ricardo Colclough, LB D'Qwell Jackson, OL Isaac Sowells, OL Nat Dorsey, WR Travis Wilson and DL Louis Leonard. Third QB is Ken Dorsey. For the Seahawks: SS C.J. Wallace, DE Jason Babin, OL Mansfield Wrotto, OT Ray Willis, WR Deion Branch, TE Marcus Pollard, DT Howard Green. Third QB is former Brown Charlie Frye. Shaun Smith started at LE for Orpheus Roye and Andra Davis started at weak side linebacker in place of D'Qwell Jackson with Leon Williams at middle linebacker. Bobby Engram started in place of Branch.

Ratterman Dies: Former Browns QB George Ratterman died on Saturday after a battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Rattermn played for the Browns from 1952-56 and was a member of the 1954 and 1955 NFL Championship teams. Ratterman was 80 years old.
