What We've Been Told

Do you want to know what we've been told lately. Well, Lane Adkins is the man (per usual) with the straight scoop on Joe J's injury, possible acquisitions, the salary cap and contract talks...

You want to know What We've Been Told? Well, here are some recent comments from those in the know about what's happening inside of the strangely quiet facility in Berea...

On the ongoing knee issues of Joe Jurevicius and another possible surgery on the horizon...

"Joe just underwent a procedure to help relieve some pain, pressure and inflammation in the knee area. At this time we are going to wait and see how he responds to the surgery and rehab. Until that time, we really don't have much else to add or go on. If you are asking if he is going to play this season, I can't answer that question with any certainty."

About the notion the team is up against the salary cap and can't make player acquisitions if necessary...

Absolutely false. If there is a player(s) we believe can fill a role for us or in a position of need, we have the ability to make a move, but any potential signing will not be extravagant. We are not in that market right now, nor do we see the need to be.

On the view of the media that QB Brady Quinn is handling the offense and is beating out starter Derek Anderson in camp sessions...

There are things Brady does very well, there are things Derek does very well. Right now, Derek is the starter and while we don't expect that to change, anything can happen. We are comfortable with both players and like the development they have shown, but I would say I don't see anything in the practice sessions which would lead to us changing our QB. There is a fascination with Brady in the media and with the fans, we are fully aware of that, but right now he is the backup and we are happy to have two starting quality players at the position...  and lets not forget Ken Dorsey, he is often overlooked.

On the third receiver spot if Jurevicius is unable to play or attend training camp...

Right now we are looking at the receivers on the roster and gauging whether they can provide the quality and depth we are looking for. We believe Travis Wilson and Kevin Kasper have done a very good job and want to look at them more. If we question the quality and depth, we would look to enhance our position.

On a couple recently mentioned possible players of interest if Jurevicius can not play, Eddie Kennison and Joe Horn...

We have not held any internal discussions regarding either player. If we would, that would likely come in a couple weeks as we get closer to camp. But right now, nothing.

On Rex Hadnot stepping in to replace the injured Ryan Tucker at RG...

We signed Hadnot to come in and provide experience, quality and depth. Losing Tucker doesn't help the situation, but Hadnot has played in this league at a high level and we are confident he can step in and fill the void. Tucker is going to be back with us at some point in training camp.

On contract negotiations with Kellen Winslow, Braylon Edwards and Sean Jones...

We haven't done really anything beside touch base with the parties. There is no immediacy in getting something done, but that could change as we get closer to the season, especially with a player in his final year that we may want to lock-up early.
