What We've Been Told

The vultures seemed to be circling LB Andra Davis at one point. Has he revived his fortunes? Lane looks at this, a recent kerfluffle involving Jerome Harrison, the WR battle, and changes at linebacker in his latest motherlode of inside info...

- The Browns organization is very satisfied with the way the QB situation has played out thus far in training camp. Derek Anderson has been able to focus without the concern of losing his job, while Brady Quinn continues to evolve into what the organization believes will be a very good quarterback.

- WR Kevin Kasper was looked at as a very strong candidate to make this team heading into training camp. Now, the WR is on the outside looking in as the practice sessions of Travis Wilson, Steve Sanders and Syndric Steptoe have been solid. The organization is not concerned with the perceived lack of experience at the position.

- LB Andra Davis has quietly had a good camp and solidified his spot as the starter in the base 3-4 defense. Leon Williams, the primary backup to Davis -- while not standing out -- is set being the LB in the nickel (pass coverage).

- OLB David McMillan has been given the opportunity to shine while Antwan Peek recovers from minor knee surgery. McMillan, though, has not shown he can be a consistent performer, much less an impact player. McMillan, who possesses very good speed and quickness, simply does not get off blocks; when engaged, he is done.

- OLB Shantee Orr is a man who has the ability to play numerous spots. He will continue to get reps at both the LOLB (in place of Peek) and ROLB (back-up to Kamerion Wimbley). Due to the issue at LOLB, Orr has taken less reps inside.

- Many have wondered about the development and progress of rookie NT Ahtyba Rubin early in camp. He did get off to a slow start, but has been pretty good over the past week and the belief is the defensive lineman has turned the rookie corner.

- The organization continues to monitor the availability of defensive backs as teams gear up for the season. While Ty Law (free agent) and Ashton Youboty (Buffalo) garner all the attention of fans, the team has a handful of potential targets in mind.

- There was a rumor the Browns were open to moving starting RT Kevin Shaffer if the right deal came about. While not completely closing the door on such a move, trading a starter at this time has become unlikely. This may have gained more steam if Ryan Tucker had returned to sessions during training camp.

- A quote recently by Romeo Crennel stirred the theorists that RB Jerome Harrison may be on the roster bubble. Not true, as we get it, the head coach was only noting things about the player and the intent was not to create an issue, though the head coach likes players to know what he thinks and this message was clear to the RB.
