Transcript: Adam Caplan Chat

Senior NFL Reporter Adam Caplan was in the OBR chat room last night and, oddly, K2 and DA came up...

Adam Caplan: hi all

<ramllov> Adam, should the Browns be planning on 2009 now?
Adam Caplan: RAM: Not yet but one thing is for sure, no way Anderson's roster bonus is picked up unless he starts to play better
consistently.

<ribsnwhiskey> Is KWII just pissed about his testicles or did the Browns really try to hide the staph thing.
Adam Caplan: RIB: There's a lot that is behind the scenes there. I don't understand why they use the Cleveland Clinic in the first place with
the previous issues.
Adam Caplan: Are there other hospitals near there?

<LongLiveSipe> FYI Lerner's have given a LOT of money to the Cleveland Clinic. Have part of the hospital named after them. They won't switch.
Adam Caplan: LONG: Ahh, didn't know that. But as a player, he can go where he wants.

<markbucki> Adam will your chat be on XM radio now? or still just sirus
Adam Caplan: MARK: Sirius but you can get the best of Sirius
Adam Caplan: it's less than $10/month

<ramllov> Adam, Lane agreed with you about Beau Bell, not being ready and maybe not ready for the season. I say let him play against the run at ILB, let the other 10 defensive players worry about the pass. What do you say?
Adam Caplan: RAM: At some point he will start to get into the rotation but probably not until they are out of the playoff race.

<alzlvlolz> Adam, say the browns are losing to the Jags 17-3 at half. DA has another horrid 1st half say 6-17 60 yards? Does Brady come out?
Adam Caplan: ALZ: I was right on last week's game that they were going to lose by 3, I think they lose 23-17 this week.
Adam Caplan: As for Quinn, the problem is he's not getting enough reps in practice with the first team offense.
Adam Caplan: They really need to get him more so he can feel more comfortable.
Adam Caplan: Coming in cold like that is hard.

<BrownsBot> Adam, is it possible that Romeo Crennel only has one real eye and his vision doesn't extend to the entire field. So he can never
see where the balls that DA throws go?
Adam Caplan: BRO: Anderson's passes were actually a little short last week which was strange.

<mawebb31> Is Winslow a Brown in 2009?
Adam Caplan: MA: I still have to think so, way too talented to give up on him.

<BrownsGettinBetter> Adam, what are your impressions of Savage? He appears to be credible young up-and-coming GM, but now I have my doubts.
Adam Caplan: BRO: For the most part I think he does a nice job.

<WhosGonnaDriveYouHome> Adam will we EVER see Brady Quinn start a Game for the Browns?
Adam Caplan: WHO: I'm starting to think he will be the guy next year after the way Anderson looked last week.

<Cvillebrown> Do all of the offensive struggles fall on DA and Braylon?
Adam Caplan: CV: OL issues, running game inconsistency

<ramllov> Adam, How high on the off season list is a premier RT on the Browns Radar?
Adam Caplan: RAM: Shaffer is still decent and BTW, Joe Thomas has not played anywhere near the level he did last year.

<steelersblow> Hey Adam any word on Tucker for Sunday's game?
Adam Caplan: STE: He won't play unless he practices by Friday.

<BigDaddy78> Adam, why did we not see the creativity on the defense and offense like we did in the MNF game?
Adam Caplan: BIG: The D is actually doing much better of late.
Adam Caplan: The secondary still isn't always lined up correctly as I pointed out last year was an issue.
Adam Caplan: Run D is still an ongoing problem.
Adam Caplan: Not having Shaun Smith and Robaire Smith is taking its toll.

<WhosGonnaDriveYouHome> Adam what do you hear about the whole QB situation; I mean, it seems absolutely mystifying why it has gotten to this point. Seems like a rather easy call. Is there anything we could be missing here?
Adam Caplan: WHO: Until they start getting Quinn more reps in practice, I don't think they will change it.
Adam Caplan: They should change if Anderson is bad again.

<steelersblow> Adam how much longer do you think we will continue to see this positive effort from Rogers this season
Adam Caplan: STL: The one positive of all the free agent moves is Rodgers.

<kevinmackfan> When is Braylon getting suspended Adam?
Adam Caplan: KEV: For what?

<kevinmackfan> dropping passes running wrong routes
Adam Caplan: KEV: That's not suspendable, though I'll petition at the owners meetings for it.

<BrownsGettinBetter> Adam, let's be real, what are the chances that RAC returns next season? It has to be less than 40 percent.
Adam Caplan: BR: I'd say 60% actually.

<ramllov> Adam, What happened in Washington, what a mess!!!!!!!
Adam Caplan: RAM: Anderson had one of the worst games from a QB I've seen, Edwards regressed again.

<steelersblow> So do you think he will continue to perform like this even if we are out of the playoff race?
Adam Caplan: STL: My expectation is that once they are out of the playoff race, Quinn will be the QB for the rest of the way.

<BigDaddy78> Edwards admitted to "losing focus", isn't that reason enough to let him watch a spell or two?
Adam Caplan: BIG: It's very strange that's happening to him.

<DawgHowl> Adam: should Savage be on the hot seat along with Crennel?
Adam Caplan: DAWG: No, Savage wasn't the one that really wanted him from what I understand.
Adam Caplan: John Collins/Lerner move.
Adam Caplan: Savage agreed with it so they did it.

<WhosGonnaDriveYouHome> Adam: what kind of pro do you project Brady Quinn as? Anyone past or present he compares well with? Eli
Manning physically?
Adam Caplan: WHO: I think he could be like that with his upside but Quinn needs a lot of work.
Adam Caplan: The sooner he gets PT the better.

<DawgHowl> Adam: what happened between K2 and Savage, who is telling the truth?
Adam Caplan: DAWG: Winslow likes it with the Browns but Savage's weakest point is how he deals with issues outside football.

<brownbomer> If the Browns trade Edwards and Anderson, what do you think they could get in return?
Adam Caplan: BR: They won't be trading Edwards.

<mawebb31> Adam - why do you say Quinn "needs a lot of work"? Based on what evidence?
Adam Caplan: MA: Film study and talking to coaches and personnel evaluators.

<BrownsGettinBetter> Adam, some have said that Savage carries a Bible in one hand and a knife in the other. Any truth to that?
Adam Caplan: BR: LOL, I would say that there are some around the league that believe that.
Adam Caplan: BR: Where did you hear that?

<BrownsGettinBetter> Adam, a friend of mine worked in the Browns organization a few years back.
Adam Caplan: BRO: I can't really comment any further on that in this forum but trust me, people have their opinions on that subject.

<flounderou> do you think Quinn would fare worse than DA - lower than a 60 rating?
Adam Caplan: FLU: I'd rather see Quinn start to get more work with the first team.

<WhosGonnaDriveYouHome> Adam: I have been told by some in the know (insiders) that Savage is behind starting Quinn now, That surprised me. Do you really believe he is just as much for Quinn as DA?
Adam Caplan: WHO: From what I understand, he leaves it up to the coaches. He does give his opinion.

<LongLiveSipe> Adam, what is morale like in Jacksonville?
Adam Caplan: LONG: Better after their slow start.
Adam Caplan: Matt Jones I believe is going to play.
Adam Caplan: Players are usually suspended by the NFL by Tuesday.
Adam Caplan: So that way they don't start practicing.

<BrownsGettinBetter> Adam, what are the chances of Winslow in a Browns uni during the 09 season?
Adam Caplan: BR: I'd say more than 50-50
Adam Caplan: The thing is, they don't want to take another step back
Adam Caplan: There are no good TEs projected to be in free agency
Adam Caplan: next season

<flounderou> Adam, is it fair to say we need 2 new starting ILB next season?
Adam Caplan: FLO: I'd say at least one.

<WhosGonnaDriveYouHome> As you can tell Adam, Quinn gives us a ton of hope. We are very excited to see him play. Not meaning to flood you too bad but the Browns have created a fascinating situation. And confusing
Adam Caplan: WHO: I was impressed to a point with him in the three practices I saw at camp.
Adam Caplan: His preseason film apparently wasn't very good.
Adam Caplan: From talking to several NFL personnel guys I know.

<BrownsGettinBetter> Adam, what has been the biggest positive surprise thus far in the Browns' season?
Adam Caplan: BRO: Rogers I'd say is one.
Adam Caplan: and Hall for sure
Adam Caplan: He can really move.

<sfanScott> when you break down film, is it more review of practice film or game film?
Adam Caplan: SF: Game film

<flounderou> Do you think Williams has been battling the shoulder all season? maybe why he hasn't had the impact one thought?
Adam Caplan: FL: My suspicions may be correct, 4-3 ends tends to struggle at first in 3-4s

<BrownsBot> Adam, any feedback on the young secondary of the Browns from around the league? From my eyes they really seem to be coming around... minus Cousins...
Adam Caplan: BR: I think they are getting better.

<Burge22> who will sign tj whosurmama next year?
Adam Caplan: WHO: I'd take him in a heartbeat in CLE.
Adam Caplan: Solid possession WR, Edwards stretch the field.

<Burge22> will cinci let him walk?
Adam Caplan: BUR: Good question but it's more of does he want to be there?

<BrownsGettinBetter> Adam, have you heard that Edwards is really unhappy in Cleveland?
Adam Caplan: BRO: Nope. He's not going anywhere. Why rebuild again?
Adam Caplan: If they do that, they might has well fire the GM.

<mawebb31> Adam - Are the Browns better suited (personnel-wise) for the 4-3 or 3-4?
Adam Caplan: MA: 3-4

<MikeFromRochester> Adam, it is obvious DA doesn't have the temperament, poise and brains to be a top qb, why are they not putting Quinn
in there and Romeo must still go
Adam Caplan: MIKE: I'd say that has some validity, his release point has been really bad lately too.

<WhosGonnaDriveYouHome> Adam: is DA a brown in 2009
Adam Caplan: WHO: Ask me around week 12
Adam Caplan: I'll probably know then.

<BrownsBot> Adam: Does DA make you want to kick your dog as badly as he makes me want to kick my dog?

Adam Caplan:
BRO: The defense has to be rebuilt, hard to see how they go with many of those players next year.
Adam Caplan: But it's heading that they won't pick p his bonus.

<mawebb31> Alex Hall & Kam Wimbley - more effective as 4-3 ends or 3-4 OLBs?
Adam Caplan: MA: 3-4 ends for sure
Adam Caplan: with their athleticism

<ramllov> Adam what will they do with the additional 10 million from DA and KW trades?
Adam Caplan: RAM: Who said they are being traded?

<Burge22> Who is coaching the Browns in 2009? Where has Jim Fassel been lately I like him
Adam Caplan: BU: Doesn't have a good rep around the league.

<alzlvlolz> Hopefully throw at TJ Whoseyourmomma or Terrel Suggs
Adam Caplan: ALZ: I'm told Suggs wanted significantly more than Freeney got.
Adam Caplan: Same agent ironically.

<redright> ADAM....just read your best available offensive players and your best available defensive players, who are the best available head coaches for 09?
Adam Caplan: RED: That's coming in two weeks.

<mawebb31> (Please don't say Brian Billick!)
Adam Caplan: ME: No way, prevent offense, lol.

<CyberEd> Adam if Quinn needs so much work yet after sitting for a year and a half then it would be safe to assume he was never worth his top ten draft status. Some had him top 5.
Adam Caplan: CY: No one had him as top-5

<ramllov> Adam, When are the Browns going to play Rucker?
Adam Caplan: RAM: They have no role for him, he's #4 on the TE depth chart
Adam Caplan: But once they are out of the playoffs, he could get into the rotation,

<DawgHowl> Adam: will Quinn start to see more reps with the first team and how much longer does DA have to play like garbage before BQ
gets a shot?
Adam Caplan: DAW: It wouldn't surprise me if he starts to get more reps soon. They have no choice.

<markbucki> does steptoe have a future?
Adam Caplan: MAR: #4 WR.

Adam Caplan: All: See you next week.
