Berea Report: Something Must Be Done

Fred Greetham reports from Berea on RAC hinting at additional personnel changes, plus the HC talks about The Ghost, KII responds to the Jamal verbal blasts, and, finally, there's some good news on the injury front.

Berea—They need to do something.

Romeo Crennel said that LB Shantee Orr will most likely be added into the mix at outside linebacker to try to improve the team's pass rush from the outside. The Browns have just five sacks from the outside linebacker position through nine games.

"Orr will play a little bit more," Crennel said. "He will get into the rotation. He's been a good performer on special teams and he's shown some pass rush."

Willie McGinest, Kamerion Wimbley and Alex Hall had been rotating with Hall having three sacks, Wimbley two and McGinest zero.

Crennel was asked why Wimbley's numbers are down. He has 42 tackles, two pressures, one pass broken up and one forced fumble.

"It has been an unproductive year in statistics," Crennel said. "I think he's improved as a player, but he's not getting sacks. It doesn't mean he's not a good player if he doesn't get a lot of sacks.

"He makes tackles when the play comes his way," he said. "He has good coverage when he's asked to do that."

Crennel said the Browns will move Wimbley around some on third downs.

NOTEBOOK

Where's Jerome: RB Jerome Harrison touched the ball on five consecutive plays against the Broncos—four runs and one pass reception—accounting for 53 yards. Yet, he didn't touch the ball again.

"We planned to use him and the ball wasn't in his hands in the second half, as much," Crennel said. "We're going to see if we can get him the ball more."

Crennel on Checking Egos: There has been much talk about RB Jamal Lewis and then WR Josh Cribbs' comments about players needing to check their egos at the door and play as a team.

Crennel said he tells the team that every day.

"I'm a team guy and I preach that all the time," he said. "It's the most important thing."

TE Kellen Winslow was asked about Lewis' comments.

"Jamal doesn't say much, so when he does people listen," he said. "I think the guys are frustrated the way things were going and sometimes you just say things."

Winslow said the Browns will be together as a team.

"A house divided can't stand," he said. "So, we can't divide. We must stay together. Anything can happen. This season has been crazy and if we go 7-0, we'd have the same record as last year."

The Snow Bowl: Last season, the Browns and Bills played at Cleveland Browns Stadium in blizzard conditions. The Browns prevailed 8-0 on two Phil Dawson field goals and a safety.

"It looks like it's going to be bad weather again," Dawson said.. "I don't know if it could get much more difficult than what it was last year. The wind was ridiculous."

Dawson kicked a 49-yard field goal and said he aimed halfway between the sideline the goal post and the wind blew it in.

"I got lucky," he said. "You try to commit to a spot and do the best you can. There were no rules that applied to that game."

Crennel said it was brutal.

"The wind was blowing in our direction and you couldn't hardly see," Crennel said. "Both teams had to deal with those elements and it was tough. Phil Dawson did a great job in kicking field goals in that weather."

Dawson said the kicks were meaningful to him because it allowed the Browns to keep their hopes alive for a playoff berth.

"To be able to help the team win when we needed a win going down the stretch was very satisfying."

Good News on Injury Front: Crennel said that all of the players will participate in practice on Thursday with the exception of FB Lawrence Vickers. That means that OL Eric Steinbach is hopeful of playing against the Bills, as well as DL Shaun Rogers.

"Everybody but Vickers will be out there, so that's encouraging," he said.

Crennel said that DL Corey Williams has been battling a shoulder injury most of the season, but will most likely have to have a procedure after the season to repair it.

"Once he gets it fixed, I think you will see a more consistent Corey Williams," he s said. "He hasn't been able to practice as much, but he plays on Sunday."
