A Browns source has informed The Orange & Brown Report that Brandon McDonald has indeed been benched for tomorrow night's game versus Buffalo and will be replaced in the starting lineup by Travis Daniels. Both McDonald and Daniels were informed of the move yesterday afternoon.
The source tells The OBR that "the team was trying to shake things up a bit. It's not anything permanent at this point in time. We'll see how it plays out."
A source close to McDonald tells The OBR that the cornerback was "surprisingly upbeat after being told he was being benched. His goal will be to prove the Browns' decision was wrong."
The 6-1, 195-pound Daniels -- acquired in an Aug. 20 trade with the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick -- has appeared in six of the club's nine games in 2008, and has been credited with three tackles and zero passes defensed. The majority of his action in '08 has come on special teams.
"(Head coach Romeo Crennel) and his (defensive) staff think it'd be wise for (McDonald) to take a step back. His technique and decision-making haven't been what they were the first couple of months of the season," the Browns source said. "Brandon has a lot of upside. He's a tremendous talent. He just needs to take a deep breath and do what he's coached to do."
