Your New Head Coach: Eric Mangini

The Browns have confirmed to the OBR that the team now has a new head coach. Eric Mangini has been hired by the Browns. The team will hold a press conference at 10AM tomorrow.

The OBR has confirmed this evening that the inevitable has come to pass: Eric Mangini is the new head coach of the Cleveland Browns. All signs have pointed in this direction over the last couple of days, with rumors floating in the direction of seemingly every media member in town.

Mangini was recently fired by the Jets, coincidentally on the same day that Randy Lerner met with the media to discuss the upcoming search for a new head coach and GM. The Browns owner was visibly intrigued when a media member told him that Mangini was available, and clearly was impressed by the Jets head coach during his interview.

Mangini was approached by the Browns back in 2005 to be their defensive coordinator before getting a similar job in New England. A year later, he took the next step up to head coach in New York. Mangini's first year with the Jets was very successful, but was marred by high-profile news involving Spygate and the return to action by Brett Favre in 2007 and 2008. Mangini comes form the Belichick coaching tree that Lerner visibly admires, and marks on the second head coach in Browns history who has prior experience in the role.

More to come this evening as we get it!
