While most of the attention in the first five days of free agency has been focused on the defensive side of the ball, it's the offensive side that could see the first signing come to fruition.
According to a Cleveland Browns source, former Buffalo Bills tight end Robert Royal visited the club yesterday. Not only did he visit, the source said, but he also received a contract offer from the club.
The Browns expect an answer to their offer within the next 48 hours. The source, however, refused to divulge either the length or the amount of the contract being offered.
The eight-year veteran has also drawn the interest of at least two other teams. The source was uncertain whether or not he had received an offer from any other club.
Royal, who was released by the Bills late last month, caught 33 passes for 351 yards and one touchdown. For his career, the 30-year-old -- he'll turn 31 in May -- has 112 receptions for 1,081 yards and 12 TDs.
Messages left for Royal's agent, Rick Smith, seeking additional confirmation have yet to be returned.
