Here's the Royal Deal

If you're an OBR subscriber, it won't come as too much of a surprise that TE Robert Royal signed this evening. Here's some more detail on how much it cost the Browns.

We started this story, so we'll finish it.

If you're not a subscriber, you don't know that the OBR's John Taylor broke the story early on Tuesday that the Browns had extended a contract offer to TE Robert Royal.

(Word of advice: Don't hold your breath waiting for anyone in the local media to credit John for that scoop, or any of the others that have broken here in the last ten days).

Furthermore, JT's story reported that the recently released Bills player was expected to provide an answer within 48 hours.

Royal did, indeed, agree to the contract terms. And we'll tell you what they are, courtesy of Scout.com's Adam Caplan: Royal signed for four years, and ten million dollars. Three million of that is in guaranteed money.

The Browns are following the pattern predicted prior to the start of free agency. They are  looking at second and third-tier players who will add quality and depth to the roster, without commanding massive amounts of money.

Keep an eye on the OBR Insider Blog in the days to come. Every free agent mentioned as being of interest to the Browns over the last week appeared there first, sometimes two or three days ahead of being mentioned anywhere else in the media. All of ‘em: Heath Farwell, Jabari Greer, Paris Lenon, Robert Royal, etc, etc. If you want to know what's coming down the pike, that's where to hang out.

Also of interest will be a recent entry in that blog from Buffalo, providing the scoop on Buffalo's experience with Royal.

Anyhow, we will continue to work our contacts, and get to the bottom of the most secretive off-season in Cleveland Browns history.
