OT Kevin Shaffer: Browns Release RT

The Cleveland Browns have released starting RT Kevin Shaffer, Scout.com has confirmed.

A source said Shaffer was due a $1 million roster bonus ($500,000 more is deferred until 2010) and carried a salary cap number of over $6 million for 2009. With his release, the team will save roughly $1.45 million in cap space, but will be carry about $4.56 million in dead money as a result of the proration of bonus money from the remaining four years of his deal.

Shaffer's agent, Alan Herman, confirmed the team remains interested in re-signing him. If Shaffer isn't re-signed, veteran OL Ryan Tucker is his likely replacement. A league source told Scout.com that the team remains interested in signing free agent OL Adam Goldberg, who is capable of playing right tackle.
