The Cleveland Browns have scheduled another workout with a potential pass-rushing outside linebacker, but this time it's a name that hasn't often been associated with the team.
Scout.com's Ed Thompson tells the OBR this evening that Penn State linebacker Aaron Maybin has a workout scheduled with the Cleveland Browns in the next week. Maybin, who has bulked up this off-season (6'4", 250) and recently turned in an impressive Pro Day performance has been moving up draft boards.
Here's what Scout.com draft analyst Chris Steuber has to say about the Nittany Lion defender, who declared early for the draft:
"Maybin is a playmaking defender who lacks the size necessary to be an every down DE, but he could become a tremendous force as a 3-4 OLB. He has a great frame, but has to add to add bulk to compete at the next level. He has a quick first step, uses his speed to his advantage and is able to harass the quarterback by using his long wingspan against a tackle. He moves well laterally and changes direction smoothly."
What Maybe hasn't been considered, however, is a logical pick for the Cleveland Browns at the #5 position. Working out Maybin could perhaps be one more sign that the team is evaluating players who might be available in a tradedown scenario.
In other workout news, Steuber also reports that the Browns will be working out LSU DE Kirston Pittman on Tuesday, and the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that DB Malcolm Jenkins will work out for the team one week from today.
