Halftime Recap: Bengals 13-0

Cleveland's offensive struggles continued in the first half on Sunday in Cincinnati. Fred Greetham recaps the first half...

After exploding for 37 points a week ago, including 24 in the first quarter, the Browns offense reverted to their former ways prior to the Lions' game. They moved the ball very little and punted after all five of their first half possessions.

The Browns had just 46 yards in offense.

The Bengals had two long drives for their first two scores and then a penalty on the final play of the first half allowed the Bengals to get a long field goal to extend their lead and take a 13-0 lead into the locker room at the half.

After the Browns stalled after moving to the Bengals' 47 on their opening drive, the Bengals took over on their 20 and were able to march to the Browns' 19 where Shayne Graham kicked a 37-yard field goal to give the Bengals a 3-0 lead with 3:04 left in the first quarter . The Bengals held the ball for 8:48. Former Chiefs' star Larry Johnson made his debut with the Bengals and had 22 yards on two carries, along with a reception. He had 49 yards in the first half, while Bernard Scott had 65 yards.

Cincinnati increased their lead to 10-0 with 1:10 to play as Carson Palmer hit J.P. Foschi from four yards out as he beat Hank Poteat for the score. They went 63 yards in 6:38 for the score.

A key play was when Palmer hit Chad Ochocinco on third-and-10. Later, Palmer hit Ochocinco for the first down to the Browns' 32. Bernard Scott ran up the middle for 12 yards to the 21.

On third-and- 8, Palmer hit Andre Caldwell for a first down and a 12-yard gain to the seven. Johnson picked up three to the four and then a short pass to Johnson for one yard, set up third-and-goal at the four where Palmer hit Foschi for the score.

Graham kicked a 53-yard field goal on the final play of the first half as Shaun Rogers was flagged for 15-yards to extend the half.

The Browns had a three-and-out and after a short punt, the Bengals had the ball on the Browns' 40 with 21 seconds to play. However, Kamerion Wimbley and David Bowens combined  to sack Palmer to apparently thwart the drive. However, on the final play, Rogers grabbed Palmer by the shoulder pads as he was going out of bounds and brought him down, and the penalty allowed Graham to kick the field goal to end the half.

The Mighty Quinn: After a career day against the Lions, QB Brady Quinn started 2-of-2 for 28 yards with a 24-yard pass to WR Chansi Stuckey on the team's first drive. However, the rest of the half he was just 2-of-8 for four yards and finished 4–of-10 for 13 yards.
