Well, uhhhh…. We Didn't Like You, Either! Yeah.

All of a sudden, I'm not feeling so bad about being cynical about Derek Anderson's quarterback play while he was a member of the Browns.

Check out what Anderson wrote to our friend Jeff Schudel when asked to comment on his release:

"The fans are ruthless and don't deserve a winner," Anderson wrote Tuesday in a terse e-mail when asked for a reaction to being released. "I will never forget getting cheered when I was injured.

"I know at times I wasn't great. I hope and pray I'm playing when my team comes to town and (we) roll them."

Holy frijoles. Seems a tad bitter.

Anderson's email is utterly inappropriate and, to be blunt, an idiotic thing to write. Even Phil Savage's career-nuking "#(@*%! you. Go root for Buffalo" was written in the heat of the moment. I can't think of any excuses for Anderson's broadside.

The veteran QB knew this release was coming and had weeks to adjust to the notion emotionally. He had plenty of time to think about the good times and bad over five years in Cleveland.

He's been out of town since the season ended, has had time to reflect, and simply decided that this is what he wanted to say.

Then again, Anderson's decision-making never has been very good. We just didn't know the bad judgements extended to PR as well.

Our Sources are Pretty Good

After a few hours with my head in code, I pull up and discover our  home page still says "Anderson to be Cut in 24 Hours".

Which was true when we reported the story, but is sort of out of date after the team pushed out a press release just a half-hour after we and the Oregonian published news stories on the subject.

Oops. Headline update on the way, followed hopefully by more useful updates for this blog.

And…. we're back!

After a day spent chasing down bugs along with all the other things that need to be done, I believe we have a second version of the automated OBR speedblog that actually works.

We'll see if my enthusiasm outlasts that 20 minutes it took the last one to break. Ra!

This is Gonna Blow Up Good. Reeeeeaaaal Good.

Back in the distant early days of this blog, Sunday, I think, I wrote a post complaining about how it wasn't possible to use real blogging tools, like off-line bloggers and so forth, inside of Scout articles.

I then went off and hacked around for a few hours, declared my attempts to be a total failure, and returned peacefully to blogging. The post was called "Sorry About my Brain" and I asked if anyone had any ideas as to how to fix all this.

Lo and behold, a Browns fan - let's call him "Patrick", since that's his name - came through with some ideas about how to integrate a real blog, more or less, into these little articles. I spent last night hacking around with it, and here it is.

Since this is my code, it may make the entire data center explode wherever Scout hosts their servers. If it works, though, it will make it easier to blog than before and might even let me get a few of our friends into the act.

If you see anything funny about how this is displaying in your browser, please contact me.
