King: Berry Will Get Past KC

Per Fletch416 in the Watercooler, no less a personage than Peter King claimed on Sirius Radio this morning that there's no way that the Chiefs will take S Eric Berry with the fifth pick in the draft.

I was talking to a Kansas City reporter not long ago who was despairing that Scott Pioli has made the team inaccessible, and destroyed what had been a good relationship between the team and media. It's no surprise that, combined with a losing record and weak economy, the Chiefs season ticket base has plummeted in recent years. When things are going bad, that's when teams should be hoping the media writes about them as much as possible, but there are lot of folks in the NFL like Pioli who are simply too arrogant to believe that NFL teams might need help from the media.

At any rate, if King knows Pioli's tendencies as well as he claims, I hope he stays true to form. If he won't take a QB after spending all that money on Cassel, and he won't take Berry, then he's alright with me.

Subscribers: Sobo's Take On Sims/Gocong

If there are linemen involved, you can be pretty sure that Sobo's going to zero in on the subject, and the recent speculation on OG Rob Sims and DE-turned-LB Chris Gocong is no different. Get Sobo's take on these two players and the Browns interest in the Tap Room.

Browns Work Out Utah OT

Per Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post and Ravens Insider, the Cleveland Browns have worked out OL Zane Beadles of Utah.

Beadles is a 6'4'", 307 pound tackle who Chris Steuber ranks as #14 among all the offensive tackles available in this year's draft. Here's Beadle's prospect profile from Steuber. Beadles has played left guard, but was moved to left tackle before his sophomore year.

The four-year starter beings a lot of versatility to the table, which is going to make him a solid mid-round selection. The Browns are likely looking at him as someone who can play left guard and back up Steinbach for now - and perhaps challenge for a starting job in years go come.

A name to watch late in the third or early in the fourth.

Top DB : Browns :: Moth : Light

Not sure if I'm doing the logical equivalency thing right – I'm still addled by sleeping late today – but once more we have a high-profile defensive back at a Pro Day, and the Cleveland Browns in attendance.

This time, per Scout.com's Chris Steuber, the school was Vanderbilt and the player in question is CB Myron Lewis, rated as the 18th best cornerback in the draft by Scout.com.

We're still trying to confirm who exactly from the Browns was there. The team is doing a lot of travelling. Here are some photos of guys running the 40 on the Vandy Football forum.

As with Patrick Robinson yesterday, the Browns interest in Lewis goes beyond watching him at his Pro Day. "MTBBPres" flung a tip at your friendly OBR Speedblogger that the Tennessean is reporting the Browns have set up a private workout with Lewis. Thanks for the heads-up, bro!
