Today's Sims-O-Rama Update

The latest big of excitement in the Rob Sims World matches the latest excitement in the Chris Gocong world. Namely, the player in question has signed his tender, opening up a possibility that he will be able to be traded in the near term.

Sims, of course has been associated with a number of teams in recent weeks, including the Browns. The offensive lineman was linked, tenuously, to the Bears last weekend, but that fell apart as the Bears dropped DE Alex Brown earlier today.

One possibility is that the Seahawks have come off their previous demands for Sims and are now asking for reduced compensation, which would put them in line with what the Browns are willing to spend.

Lane Adkins was the first to report the Browns interest in Sims, a story we have been following since before free agency began. Today's news indicates that things may be getting closer to the end game.

Shaun Rogers Arrested with Gun

According to WOIO in Cleveland, Cleveland Browns NT Shaun Rogers has been arrested for bringing a gun into Hopkins Airport in Cleveland.

WOIO is known for having a near-pathological distaste for the Browns since Randy Lerner pulled their pre-season broadcasting rights several years ago, there is nothing in the story that indicates that it's an April Fools joke.

We will bring you developments throughout the day.

Pontbriand to Team: Snap the Ball Yourself

The Cleveland Browns relatively quiet year off-the-field took a haphazard turn on Thursday, as the team's long snapper, Ryan Pontbriand, took to the local airwaves to demand a trade unless he is given a new contract extension.

Although it was somewhat ridiculed at the time, Pontbriand's selection in the fifth round of the 2003 draft has turned out to be one-time Browns coach Butch Davis' best selection. Pontbriand has served as the team's long snapper each year since coming into the league, and was named to the Pro Bowl in 2007 and 2008.

As the highest-drafted long snapper in NFL history, Pontbriand was a pacesetter for specialists at the position. Now, with his holdout for a major contract extension, Pontbriand is setting another new standard for the often-overlooked single-purpose players.

While Pontbriand himself was unavailable to comment, the player's desire for a new contract was brought forward via the usual local media channels thanks to his new representation.

Pontbriand's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, took to Twitter to explain the long snappers' case for a new deal:

  • Teams are increasingly realizing the value that long snappers bring to their clubs. Winning franchises are realizing that. Wait Too long sry
  • As I was saying, teams are just now realizing the value that long snappers bring to their clubs. A Pro Bowl quality long snapper can... wait
  • Yeah. Teams are figuring this out. A Pro Bowl quality long snapper can make the difference between a winning and losin
  • Sorry that last one got cut off.
  • Between a successful punt and an unsuccessful one, Did you know that 43% of all game losing turnovers by clubs near the Great LaDAMMI
  • Crap crap crap. OK hang on, getting one of my kids
  • Tms nd lng snpprs becuz they r awesome so give us munee or u can snp the ball urself. G luck w/that.

The demands could not have come at a worse time for the Browns organization, coming amidst draft preparation and on the heels of Mike Holmgren's sudden hospitalization due to a sudden recurrence of symptoms of Chromic Brimley Syndrome.

Through a spokesperson, the Browns relayed Holmgren's thoughts on the matter: "Ryan has been an important part of the club. He's been steady, reliable, and regular. It's particularly important to be regular, especially for young folks these days. Fortunately for Ryan, he gets a lot of fiber thanks to Quaker Oatmeal. A lot of folks don't know the value of a high-quality start to the day with some go***m Oatmeal, like I have to eat every *****ing day thanks to my Diabeetus".

The OBR is Hiring! For Real!

Since we started back in the 90s, the OBR has always been something we did because we simply enjoy doing it first, second, and third. It's a lot of fun, and we've managed to make it over a decade now, thanks to the support of our subscribers.

We're continuing to try to provide Browns fans with a legitimate news alternative outside of the mainstream media – an outlet focused entirely on Browns fans as our friends and customers.

We're a small group, but we love what we do, and we're very focused. And we're trying to grow.

After a couple of false starts over the years, we will be attempting to launch a television program this year, are mulling a couple of radio opportunities, and look to expand our monthly magazine.

To facilitate this we are looking for a Business Development Manager and Advertising Sales Representatives. We're looking for people who have our enthusiasm for Cleveland sports and can work within a small group of sportaholics.

We need folks who can work with webdorks, who are self-motivated, and who want to build something unique and cool.

If that describes you, check out our recent job placement ad in Craigslist, and send us your resume through their service. Alternatively, if you wish to contact me directly, you can send me an email or your resume at "barry @ theobr.com".

We are looking at experienced people interested in a new challenge for the Business Development Manager role, and at a wide range of individuals (including those with no experience) as Sales Representatives.

We've been at this for a decade, so we've learned some things along the way, and hope to combine our knowledge and enthusiasm with yours to build something that your kids and grandkids associate with what it means to be a Cleveland Browns fan.
