Browns Get Brown, Gocong from Eagles

The Browns have landed a starting corner and a pass rusher in a huge trade with the Philadelphia Eagles earlier today. Going to Philly is LB Alex Hall and two mid-round draft picks.

The Cleveland Browns have dealt Alex Hall and two mid-round picks to the Philadelphia Eagles for CB Sheldon Brown and OLB Chris Gocong. While the OBR has been reporting the potential deal for Gocong for weeks, Brown is the key part of this package for the Browns.

A eight-year veteran, Brown played at nearly a Pro Bowl level last season while asking for a new contract from the Eagles.

The Browns are giving up their fourth-round choice (105 overall) and fifth-round choice (137 overall) in the deal.

The Philadelphia Eagles today announced they have traded CB Sheldon Brown and LB Chris Gocong to the Cleveland Browns for LB Alex Hall, a 4th round draft choice (105th overall) and a 5th round draft choice (137th overall) in 2010.

"Sheldon Brown has been a very good football player for the Eagles over the last eight years," said head coach Andy Reid. "He's a good person, a legitimate tough guy and he'll do a good job helping the Browns. Chris did a good job converting from defensive end to linebacker and helped us win a lot of football games. We wish both of them all of the best."

Added general manager Howie Roseman, "Sheldon and Chris have been nothing but professionals on and off the field during their tenure in Philadelphia and we wish them all the best as they continue their careers in Cleveland. Alex Hall is a big, athletic linebacker who we've had our eyes on over the last couple of years and he'll have a chance to compete at the SAM linebacker spot."

The 6-5, 250-pound Hall played in 30 games (2 starts) for the Cleveland Browns and recorded 30 tackles and three sacks, while adding 18 stops on special teams. His sacks came in three consecutive games during the early portion of his rookie campaign of 2008. Hall was a 7th round draft choice of the Browns.

A native of Springdale, MD, Hall finished as the all-time leader in sacks at St. Augustine's College with 26. He also posted 156 total tackles, including 51 for a loss, four fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble.

With the acquisition of Cleveland's 5th round pick, the Eagles now have 10 total selections in this year's draft: 1st round (24th overall), 2nd round (55), 3rd round (70, from Seattle), 3rd round (87), 4th round (105, from Cleveland), 4th round (121), 5th round (137, from Cleveland), 6th round (200, from Indianapolis), 7th round (243, compensatory pick), and 7th round (244, compensatory pick)
