A 750-Pound 6×6 Elk with 354 inches of antlers

It’s not a well-known fact, but the gang here at the OBR can actually, at times, be seen doing things that have nothing to do with Cleveland Browns football. Fred, for example, is a pretty darn accomplished hunter. Lane is amazingly good at knocking over free standing objects with heavy spheres. I will sometimes go grocery shopping and emerge without any sort of physical injury. It’s all true.

Obviously, I don’t know very much about hunting, but Fred does, and this picture he sent us from his recent vacation is proof positive that he beat up a moose with his bare hands. I think.

Like I said, Fred’s the hunting expert, not me. The title of this post is what Fred told me this photo represents, and it sounds pretty darn impressive.

What this picture means to me is that when civilization collapses because of pick one: (peak oil, zombies, alien invasion), Fred will know how to survive without Deliver Me Food and I will not. So, after the zombies eat Cleveland, I’ll be heading over to Fred’s house and reminding him that we once did a website thing together and that was lots of fun, remember that Fred, ol buddy?

Like you, I know a human being can’t survive on carefully stored Twinkies for more than two or three years. I’m all about planning ahead.

I will give three people a free iPhone app

I’ve been kicking the tires on an iPhone app for the OBR Radio Podcast. The thing seems really cool… you can stream every show that we’ve done and store there, it has contact info for the show, we can even put Zeppe’s and other coupons in as printable extras to help our sponsors. Awesome.

Problem is, when I stream our shows via the app, we seem to have buffering issues at various points. I’m the only iPhone user on the OBR squad until Fred assimilates, so I’ve got one test case for this app. It may just be the AT&T’s network is spotty enough where I am that it does too much buffering, or it may be a problem with the app itself. I gotta know.

So, if you’re an iPhone user and want to help kick the tires on this thing, I’ll give you a complimentary code for the app.

Click it here and let me know you want it, and I’ll send you the link and a code for a free copy.

Why Is There a Picture of a Pirate Ship on my OBR?

I guess I have to explain this one.

We recently went back to doing the Daily Blog from our old Create One Blog Page that Updates Forever Because We’re Lazy And Don’t Have Real Blog Tech approach. That means I have to create a new story each day, with an associated author, photo, etc.

I sure as hell don’t want to put my own name on this, so I started making up names long ago.

But what about the picture? I have no idea what will actually be discussed in the blog, since that depends on what news encounters us that day. I have an assortment of Browns clocks and watches I use, but those get boring too.

So, I noticed that I used the word “Stupid” in today’s blog description because I’m hoping I’ll actually have some time to blog at a couple points today. That means that the blog will have its fair share of pure, unadulterated stupid, so I felt the need to describe the article accurately.

So far, so good. We have the pertinent facts that this is a blog, it’s probably going to have some stupid stuff in it, and it needs a picture.

I then looked in Scout’s image library for pictures containing the word “stupid’.

It turns out that, out of nearly one million media items that have been put in the Scout network photograph catalog since 2001, only one returns a hit when you search for the word “stupid”. That’s astonishing, really, considering that there’s a Steelers site on the network.

The only photo: A photo of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers pirate ship at their stadium, where I used a caption that said something like “Stupid Pirate Ship Thing in Tampa Bay”.

So, in ten years of the Scout network, I’m the only one to refer to a rival’s annoying Stadium contrivances as “stupid”, and hence have to use the same doofy thing to describe my own blog.

Somehow it seemed sort of zen.
