Bucs-Dolphins P.M. Practice Notes - 8/11

August 11 – The Buccaneers held the last of three joint practices on Saturday afternoon. Tampa Bay will now have a walk-through practice on Sunday afternoon and then play their preseason opener on Monday night against Miami at Raymond James Stadium

The Bucs and Dolphins last practice was in shells (helmet and shoulder pads). Here are some quick hits from Saturday afternoon's practice with the Dolphins.

ON THE INJURY FRONT: We'll give you the good news first. First of all, there were no serious injuries on Saturday afternoon. Free safety Dexter Jackson, who sat out in the morning practice, played in the afternoon one. Bucs' MLB Jamie Duncan played in both the morning and afternoon practices.

Bucs' WR Jacquez Green did not practice. Bucs' TE Todd Yoder had to the afternoon practice early with heat exhaustion.

DEFENSES DOMINANT: Both the Bucs and Dolphins' defenses dominated the offenses on Saturday afternoon. The focus of the practice was goal line and red zone drills. Cornerback Donnie Abraham sat out the last three series of these drills due to fatigue. Rookie CB Dwight Smith and CB Corey Ivy were rotated at the position in Abraham's absence.

OFFENSIVE NOTES: Running back Warrick Dunn was the receiving star of the afternoon for the Buccaneers.

QB Brad Johnson was throwing the ball well again against the Dolphins secondary.

QB Shaun King's shoulder appears to still be sore. King hurt his shoulder in a team scrimmage last Saturday.

FINAL NOTE: The reason the Buccaneers enjoy practicing against the Dolphins is because of their defense. Tampa Bay will probably not see a defensive style like the one Miami possesses. On defense, Miami favors the cover-2 press coverage, which the Bucs' offense struggles against. Head coach Tony Dungy was pleased with his teams' effort, but not with their progress.

UP NEXT FOR TAMPA BAY: The Buccaneers will hold a walk-through practice on Sunday afternoon and will the have the afternoon off. Tampa Bay will open their preseason at home on Monday night when they host the Miami Dolphins at 8:00 p.m. ET.
