Bucs Place WR Frank Rice on IR, Sign C/G Thomas

August 15 – Tampa Bay made a pair of roster moves on Wednesday. The Buccaneers placed rookie WR Frank Rice on the injured reserve and signed C/G Eric Thomas to a one-year contract.

When undrafted free agent WR Frank Rice played through April's mini-camp, the Buccaneers were very impressed by his performance. But after suffering a torn right ACL last week in practice, Rice will have to wait to make a lasting impression next season. Rice was placed on the injured reserve on Wednesday and will miss the entire 2001 Bucs' season.

Meanwhile, Tampa Bay added depth to their offensive line by signing C/G Eric Thomas to a one-year contract. Thomas (6-3, 286), who played collegiately at Florida St., originally entered the NFL as a free agent with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Thomas played in NFL Europe this past spring with the Frankfurt Galaxy and after their season concluded, he joined the Tampa Bay Storm. Thomas will wear jersey number 73.
