Bucs Release WR Chandler, Add LB Rice

AUG. 23 - The Bucs have two Johnsons and two Ivys on their roster, so why not two Rices? The Bucs added LB Al Rice on Thursday and waived WR Mike Chandler.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have released wide receiver Mike Chandler and signed linebacker Al Rice (6-2, 218) to a one-year contract.

Rice entered the NFL out of Mississippi in 2000 with the San Francisco 49ers. He was waived last June, but was re-signed after the season and allocated to NFL Europe.

Rice played for the Amsterdam Admirals during the summer and notched 44 tackles, two interceptions, half a sack and four passes defensed while starting all 10 games. While at Mississippi, Rice played in all 44 games, starting nine, and collected 145 tackles, three sacks and two interceptions.

Chandler, who played at Kansas, was signed by the Bucs on July 31.
