Still, this is much better news than was reported last week. … Geno Smith has secured his job as the Jets' starting QB for at least one more week. He will start Saturday's preseason game. Michael Vick has reportedly been running the Wildcat in practice. … Nick Foles continues to only look decent in camp. This has been the word out of Philly's camp pretty much all summer.

Pierre Thomas has fallen to third on the Saints' depth chart. While this obviously isn't good news, it's not as disastrous as it may sound. The bottom line is Mark Ingram and Khiry Robinson can't catch passes like Thomas can. He has always been purely a PPR option and still is. His carries may decline, however. … In Houston, Andre Brown and Dennis Johnson were cut in a somewhat surprising turn of events. They signed William Powell and, more notably, Ronnie Brown to replace them. Jonathan Grimes is now the handcuff to own if you are interested in Arian Foster. … Steelers No. 2 RB LeGarrette Blount took the red zone duties in their preseason opener. This could hurt Le'Veon Bell's fantasy production. It's been reported that they will both "get their share" of carries this season. … Bishop Sankey has impressed his coaches in Titans camp. It has also been reported that it's "easy to envision" him as the "primary ball-carrier" in Tennessee. This is pretty much what everyone expects. Did anyone really believe Shonn Greene was the going to be the starter? … Giovani Bernard could see a good amount of the goal-line carries this season. This could increase his fantasy value in a major way… Cardinals coaches continued to stress that Andre Ellington will get around 20 touches per game and added that they plan to limit his carries between the tackles. This is obviously good news for the undersized back. … According to head coach Jason Garrett, DeMarco Murray is the leader of a committee in Dallas. … Despite struggling in his preseason debut, rookie James White received first-string reps this week in Patriots camp. … LaMichael James has recovered enough from his elbow injury to participate in practice. … Marshawn Lynch was both accused and cleared of assault this week… Reports out of Redskins camp state that Alfred Morris has "mastered the one-cut style of running." … Buccaneers rookie Charles Sims left practice with an ankle injury on Tuesday. The injury will require surgery, and he will be out 12-14 weeks. This is a tough blow to Sims owners and great news for Doug Martin owners. … Latavius Murray required two surgeries on his injured ankle last season. Now that he's healthy, the Raiders are starting to see more out of the promising young back.

He should be ready to go in the Redskins' preseason game on Monday. … After raving about Marqise Lee recently, now Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley is criticizing his effort and work ethic. … Rookie Kelvin Benjamin has been identified as the "star" of Panthers' camp this summer. He will be their WR1 and could have a major fantasy impact this season. … Percy Harvin is OK after an injury scare this week in camp. The injury-prone Florida product limped off the field after suffering from an apparent ankle injury, but he recovered in time to play in Friday's preseason game. … Jeremy Maclin suffered a mild hamstring injury this week and didn't play in Friday's preseason game. Before the hammy issues, Maclin was reportedly "toasting" Patriots cornerback Darrelle Revis during joint practices and one-on-one drills. … According to former Rams wide receiver Torry Holt, Tavon Austin has been "very quiet" in camp. Holt believes Austin will make most of his contributions on special teams this season. … Andre Johnson returned to Texans practice this week after sitting out 15 days with a hamstring injury. … This is mostly speculation and an educated guess, but reports out of Cardinals' camp state that Michael Floyd could end up being Arizona's WR1 this season, not Larry Fitzgerald. … Michael Crabtree has returned to 49ers practice after experiencing hamstring soreness… The Dolphins' Brandon Gibson is reportedly on the roster bubble. Gibson has been solid; however, rookie Jarvis Landry has outperformed him. The winner of the WR3 job in Miami could be a sneaky-good sleeper pick. … There has been no sign in Chiefs camp that Dwayne Bowe will bounce back this year. Bowe is coming off a poor showing in 2013 and has not had a good camp. It was announced Friday that Bowe has been suspended one game, likely a result of his November arrest for marijuana possession. His ADP has already plummeted this season, and it's probably best you stay away from him. … Steelers rookie Martavis Bryant really struggled against the Giants in Pittsburgh's preseason opener. He will have to continue to work on and develop his game if he wants more playing time. … The Jaguars' Cecil Shorts will resume practicing on Sunday after missing most of camp with an injured hamstring. … The Bears have signed Santonio Holmes, formerly of the Jets. Chicago had a void to fill after No. 3 WR Marquess Wilson broke his collarbone earlier this month. … It was reported this week that we may officially find out for how long the Browns' Josh Gordon will be suspended before the end of next week.

Patriots TE and regular in this segment Rob Gronkowski participated in seven-on-seven drills this week. He is still not taking any contact, but the goal remains to have Gronk on the field by Week 1 of the regular season. Gronk is currently considered 50/50 for that game. … The Redskins' Jordan Reed returned to practice after missing a few days of practice due to a stomach virus. … Antonio Gates is "still the man" in San Diego. While incumbent Ladarius Green is expected to see his fair share of playing time, reports out of Chargers camp are that Gates is still the superior option. … In Dallas, Jason Witten is expected to see the ball in space more often this season than he has in the past. … Martellus Bennett was reinstated by the Bears after being suspended for his role in a scuffle last week with rookie CB Kyle Fuller. … In WR Josh Gordon's absence, Jordan Cameron will "dominate" the Browns' passing game. It has been abundantly clear in camp that he is Cleveland's best option and will receive the bulk of the targets.
