Glennon Comparisons Are Out of Control

The Bucs might be just 1-4 on the season, but there have been a lot of laughs and jokes at One Buc Place this week relating to Mike Glennon's new found mobility.

Mike Glennon has been very good in his 2 starts this season. He has displayed confidence, arm strength, accuracy to all fields, and a bit of mobility. However, it seems as if some coaches and Glennon himself are getting a little too carried away with a couple mobile throws by the mostly stationary quarterback.

“You have routes drawn up and they’re supposed to go a certain way but, you know, you can get off the script fairly quick sometimes,” Lovie said. “And when a quarterback goes scrambling, you have to get open as much as anything. Of course, Mike scrambled around and threw a great play to Vincent Jackson, a great lob pass after he kind of broke off the route."

“[On the touchdown to Robert Herron] it was the same thing. Mike kept the play with his feet. You know you didn’t think I would say that about Mike moving around and keeping a play going like that, he looked like Michael Vick running around on that play.”

Lovie Smith wasn't the only one making the asinine comparisons for Glennon. On Wednesday, interim offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo shared a joke that Glennon told him.

“I liken him to Manziel a little bit, you know? He actually said that to me, which was funny," Bucs interim offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo joked on Wednesday. "He did a good job. Mike does – to some surprise maybe – does a good job on the move, he really does. He moves well. He does a good job keeping his eyes downfield, He’s got good arm angles, he does things outside the pocket that you don’t see because he’s not out there very often – on tape, that’s not his deal. But when he does, he displays that he can throw the ball."

No one is more about having fun than I am, but at 1-4, yucking it up about Mike Glennon's supposed new mobility does not come across well to some fans.

Mike Glennon is not Michael Vick or Johnny Manziel, but he has displayed enough mobility to break the pocket and the awareness to keep his eyes down the field. Glennon has already been compared to Matt Ryan in many ways, and the mobility between the two is just another accurate comparison as well.
