This shouldn't even be debated. But it has. And it most likely will continue to be. At least until the team returns from the bye week.
There is uncertainty surrounding the Buccaneers quarterback situation. Head coach Lovie Smith has been reserved when talking about moving forward with Mike Glennon as his starter for the rest of the season, staying with the notion that we could see veteran Josh McCown back in there at some point.
Lately, Smith has had no choice but to say positive things about his "quarterback of the future" as Glennon has performed considerably well. So has Smith finally decided on continuing on with Glennon as the team's starter?
"I made a statement that Mike is our quarterback of the future, saying he has a future with us, that came a little sooner than we thought and he’s played well," Smith said. "Yeah, we would like to have couple of plays [back], but looking at the overall picture on what Mike Glennon has done, he’s given us a lot of hope. As far as our relationship, Mike you have a big role in leading us back and he’s accepting that challenge.”
So Glennon "has a big role" in leading the team back and he has accepted that challenge? Sounds like he may be the starter after all.
But then again, the role that was given could be the role of backing up McCown again. Boy would they go over well with the masses.
We all know the regime brought in McCown to be the guy at least for this year. In their analytic model used to evaluate talent, McCown was ranked as a Top 7 quarterback. The veteran did not play as a Top 7 quarterback in his first nine or so quarters as a Buc.
Whether or not Lovie and Co. stay with Glennon remains to be seen. However, it sure does sound like he has decided on his younger signal caller.
