Unlucky No. 13

August 28 – After releasing 12 players on Monday, the Buccaneers met the NFL's mandatory requirement of cutting their roster down to 65 players on Tuesday by reaching an injury settlement with undrafted rookie DT Mike Mackenzie

The Buccaneers trimmed their roster down to 72 players on Monday afternoon by cutting 12 players. But Tampa Bay still needed to release one more players since the NFL requires all 31 teams to have no more than 65 players on their roster after the first of two roster cut sessions in the preseason.

Tampa Bay made good on meeting the 4 p.m. deadline Tuesday afternoon by reaching an injury settlement with DT Mike Mackenzie. The undrafted rookie from Colorado St. was signed by the Buccaneers on April 23, but severely sprained his left ankle in training camp and was apparently not able to fully recover.

By agreeing on an injury settlement with Tampa Bay, Mackenzie is no longer a Buccaneer, but will be free to sign with another team after the 10th week of the season.

The Buccaneers now have 71 players on their roster, six of which are NFL Europe exemptions. Tampa Bay is required to cut their roster down to 53 players on the Sunday after the Bucs preseason finale against the Atlanta Falcons, which will be played on Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET. at the Georgia Dome.
