After months of hype, Bucs running back Charles Sims got his first game action of his NFL career. Sims had just 8 carries for 23 yards, while also adding 2 receptions for 17 yards. On Thursday, NFL Films' senior producer Greg Cosell joined 98.7 The Fan's Fan Interference and spoke about Sims.
"He's not naturally fluid," Cosell said of the Bucs new running back on 98.7 The Fan. "He's a little mechanical as opposed to naturally shifty."
Sims has been compared by some national analysts to Matt Forte of the Bears. After hearing Cosell's comments about Sims not being naturally shifty, perhaps Forte is not the best comparison for him.
"I think what you saw in his first game is something that you have to learn real quick in the NFL," Cosell said. "You can't run laterally. He must be more decisive and aggressive getting downhill, but guys learn that as they play in the NFL."
The Bucs have essentially given up on Doug Martin as their feature back. With Bobby Rainey being a nice change of pace back, but lacking the necessary special tools to be a true feature back as well, the Bucs must figure out if Sims can be their feature back moving forward.
Listen to Justin Pawlowski daily from 9a-12p as the host of "Fan Interference" on 98.7 The Fan.
