The Bucs listed cornerback Alterraun Verner as questionable for Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins. But on his weekly sit down on Buccaneers.com, head coach Lovie Smith revealed that Verner will not play against the Redskins.
This will be Verner's second consecutive game missed due to a hamstring injury.
The news is not good for the Bucs as Washington receivers cause headaches for opposing corners with their speeds. Receiver DeSean Jackson has a 100-yard game in four of past five games. In those five he has recorded 21 catches for 577 yards and three touchdowns. He is averaging just under 22 yards per catch this season.
On the opposite side of the line of scrimmage, Pierre Garcon leads the team with 42 receptions and is a speed threat as well.
The absence of Verner means that cornerback Crezdon Butler will get another start. He has nine tackles and one pass defensed this season.
