Big Endorsement for Jameis Winston

There might still be five games left in the season, but much like last year for the Bucs, they're staring a high draft choice in the face yet again. After the unsettling play of both quarterbacks for the Bucs this season, it would surprise most if that position is not addressed this off-season, but which quarterback will the Bucs target?

There might still be five games left in the season, but much like last year for the Bucs, they're staring a high draft choice in the face yet again. After the unsettling play of both quarterbacks for the Bucs this season, it would surprise most if that position is not addressed this off-season, but which quarterback will the Bucs target?

Appearing on ESPN 1000 in Chicago last week, the voice of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Florida State Seminoles Gene Deckerhoff discussed the potential of Jameis Winston in the NFL and the issues he might bring.

“Jameis Winston has never been charged with a crime. He has never been arrested for a crime. He has won 23 consecutive games, every game he has started. He is a leader in the clubhouse on the baseball team. He is a team leader in the locker room on the football team. Yes, he did win the Heisman trophy a year ago when he led his team, as a freshman, to a national championship. All the kid does is win.

“He’s been honored as much as any player in the history of college football, at least to this point in his career. And yet he is probably the most maligned and the most hated guy in a college uniform.

“I will say this: I've been around Jameis. I've been around his family. He goes to class. He’s a 3.0 or better grade point average. He rides a bicycle to class. He is the quintessential student athlete. I’m very proud that Jameis Winston is the quarterback of the Florida State Seminoles.

“I’ll promise you this. He will win a Super Bowl for whichever team that drafts him in the National Football League.”

I know that there has been a lot of "hate" towards Jameis Winston over the past year. I think some of it is for his off-the-field issues and some of it is simply because he wins and is better than the quarterback on your team. He's the best player in college football, and with that comes added pressure and criticism.

I have been a firm believer that a lot of the stories and rumors relating to Jameis Winston were nowhere near as serious as the national media made them out to be. Jamies Winston seems to be a target of a lot of people, but to get this type of endorsement from a man with the integrity of Gene Deckerhoff who is so close with the Florida State football program should not go unnoticed. If this is the way Gene Deckerhoff feels, I'd be curious to see how other people close to the FSU football program and know the actual truth relating to Jameis Winston feel about his character.

Gene Deckerhoff promised that Winston will win a Super Bowl in the NFL. Do you think Gene would like to call that Super Bowl win as Winston leads the Buccaneers to their 2nd Super Bowl title? I know he does, but do you?
