If the Buccaneers continue down this path of ending with a top 3 draft choice, or at least being in position to trade up in the 2015 NFL Draft, quarterback will be on top of their wish list. The top two quarterbacks, Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston, will be squaring off in the 1st round of College Football's 1st ever playoff.
Marcus Mariota has continued to display his ability to be a star in Oregon's unique style of offense. He has the size, speed, and arm strength most teams love in a quarterback. There is also a question as to whether Mariota will be able to make a smooth transition into a true NFL offense.
For Jameis Winston, the concerns have been well publicized. There have been accusations off the field that the organization will have to find out whether he is truly a bad seed or a guy who's been the target of false accusations. As Gene Deckerhoff recently said, he has never been charged with a crime. On the field, Winston has thrown many more interceptions late in the season, but played his best game against Georgia Tech on Sunday. One would have to wonder if the off field distractions finally took their toll on Winston late in this season. Winston is a superior pocket passer to Mariota, and does an excellent job in anticipating throws and performing in the clutch.
My gut feeling is that the Bucs and their ownership want a quarterback early in next year's draft. If that's the case, every Bucs fan should be watching this game between Oregon and FSU on January 1st.
