By now, most have heard that Cam Newton had a bad car accident on Tuesday. While early reports of two broken legs for the Panthers star quarterback proved to be false, Newton did suffer some injuries during the incident.
According to the Charlotte Observer, Cam Newton suffered two fractures in his lower back during a two-car accident on Tuesday. Because of these fractures, Cam Newton is likely to miss this Sunday's matchup with the Buccaneers.
This will be the 2nd time the Bucs have avoided facing Cam Newton this year due to injury. Unfortunately for the Bucs, Derek Anderson had a ton of success in their first meeting this year, going 24-34 for 230 yards, 2 touchdowns, and no interceptions in a 20-14 victory over the Bucs in week 1.
The Bucs defense gets their 2nd chance to show how much they have improved while trying to beat a backup quarterback again this season.
The Panthers are just a 1/2 game back in the NFC South race with a 4-8-1 record.
UPDATE: Cam Newton has been ruled out and Derek Anderson will start for the Panthers against the Bucs on Sunday.
