McCoy just signed a new 7-year contract worth nearly $100 million earlier this season. In this his 5th NFL season, McCoy's seasons have been cut short by injuries in three of those seasons.
"I’m a soldier, man," McCoy said on Monday when asked if he wanted to go back into yesterday's game. "In order to – real soldiers – in order to make them stop, you’ve got to kill them, and I’ve kind of got that mentality, man. You’ve got to shoot me, you’ve got to kill me in order to keep me down.”
The Bucs will now get a chance to see some of their reserve players along the defensive line get an opportunity to impress the coaching staff before the off-season. This might be the last chance DaQuan Bowers will get to remain with the team after this season.
McCoy's season ends with him having 8.5 sacks, 7 of which came in the 1st half of games. The "leader" of the Bucs defense is undoubtedly the Bucs most talented player, but again ends another season without making key plays late in games to help spur the Bucs on to victories. Until he does that, he should not be placed into the elite category of defensive players like J.J. Watt.
