If the Buccaneers lose their final two games of this regular season, there is a good chance they will end up with the 1st overall pick in next April's NFL Draft. The one team that could overtake them by winning the tiebreaker of easier strength of schedule is the Tennessee Titans.
Bucs opponents this season have a combined record (counting the division 2x) of 106-115-3, a .473 winning percentage. The Titans combined strength of schedule is 112-113-1 after the Jaguars got the win over the Titans on Thursday night, a winning percentage of .496.
With just a few games separating the Bucs and Titans in the tiebreaker for the 1st overall pick if both lose their remaining games, these are the teams Bucs fans should be rooting for this week to help the Bucs secure the top overall pick:
Ravens @ Texans - With Case Keenum starting for the Texans, the Ravens are heavy favorites in this matchup, which is bad news for the Bucs. If the Ravens were to win, it would hurt the Bucs, but doubly help the Titans as it would give the Texans (a divisional opponent which means it counts twice towards the final combined record) another loss. Bucs fans should be rooting hard for the Texans.
Browns @ Panthers - The Bucs have played both of these teams, but with divisional opponents counting twice towards the final combined record, a Panthers loss would be a big boost for the Bucs' quest for the 1st overall pick in next year's draft. Can Johnny Manziel get his 1st NFL win?
Chiefs @ Steelers - The Titans played the Chiefs and the Steelers, while the Bucs only played the Steelers. If the Chiefs find a way to go into Pittsburgh and get a victory, it will help the Bucs strength of schedule stay weak, while improving the Titans SOS again.
While those are the games where both teams affect the Bucs and Titans, here are the other teams Bucs fans should want to win on Sunday to help win the tiebreaker for the 1st overall pick:
Vikings @ Dolphins - Dolphins
Patriots@ Jets - Jets
Giants@ Rams - Giants
Colts@ Cowboys - Colts
The cliff notes version is that Bucs fans should root for teams the Bucs have played to lose and teams the Titans have played to win.
