Bucs fans were told throughout the entire 2014 season that Josh McCown gave their team the best chance to win. Mike Glennon truly didn't even get a chance to prove his worth because of that statement uttered by Lovie Smith week after week. Well, the Bucs released Josh McCown late on Wednesday.
"Josh is our starter," Lovie Smith would say each week during the 2014 season.
With his release, the Bucs save $5.25 million to their salary cap space as we head into the 2015 off-season.
McCown's release leaves the Bucs with just Mike Glennon as the only true quarterback on the Bucs current roster. There have been some rumors that the Bucs might be interested in shopping Glennon as well in a trade.
Today's move also opens the door for the Bucs to select a quarterback with the 1st overall pick in April's draft. ESPN.com reported earlier on Wednesday that Bucs head coach Lovie Smith preferred Jameis Winston over Marcus Mariota.
