The thought of Mike Glennon being the starting quarterback for the Buccaneers is not even a consideration to most Bucs fans in the Tampa Bay area. Anticipation continues to grow towards the Buccaneers drafting a quarterback with the first pick in the 2015 NFL Draft and playing that pick immediately. Bucs starting center Evan Dietrich-Smith believes Mike Glennon is prepared to fight for the job.Appearing on SiriusXM NFL Radio on Monday with Alex Marvez and Bill Polian, Dietrich-Smith went into detail about the difficulty of losing Jeff Tedford at the start of the year, the change of culture Lovie Smith brought to the Bucs, and a glowing review of Mike Glennon.
"I think Mike has the ability to be a starting quarterback in this league," Dietrich-Smith said of Glennon. "He has great arm strength. He's got a lot of intangibles you like in a starting quarterback. He's very smart. He practices hard. He studies very hard. He had Josh (McCown) there all last season teaching him how to be a pro about it. I'm one of the first guys in the building every morning, and Mike always beat me there."
"He's very dedicated and I think he's taking it very seriously about coming into this next season to compete for that job," EDS said.
I don't care how dedicated Glennon is. Once the Bucs select a quarterback with the first overall pick in the draft, that player immediately becomes the starting quarterback. Hell, there isn't even a guarantee that Glennon will be on the roster by the time the draft gets here.
