Bucs Release Left Tackle Anthony Collins

Buccaneers have released Anthony Collins but are bringing back Leonard Johnson and Bobby Rainey.

The experiment is over. The Bucs have cut left tackle Anthony Collins after just one season.

Collins was brought in to replace left tackle Donald Penn. The 29-year old was brought in together with now former quarterback Josh McCown. But after several poor performances by the veteran linemen, he was deactivated during the last quarter of the season making it obvious that the Buccaneers admitted their mistake.

He will cost Tampa Bay $3-million in dead money but the team will save another $3-million towards the salary cap.

Cutting Collins overshadows the signings of two others. The Buccaneers are bringing back cornerback Leonard Johnson and running back Bobby Rainey.

Johnson served as the teams nickel conerback and is reportedly back on a one-year deal. Although Rainey struggled in the run game, he proved to be versatile in the return game.
