Remember what I wrote about last week in regards to the next 3 weeks of rumors? Well, they've started.
I do not want to waste too much time writing about this.
ESPN's Ron Jaworski is now reporting that the Buccaneers will take Marcus Mariota with the 1st pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.
"The latest I'm hearing now from my sources around the league, who are pretty wired in, is that he's going to go number one now to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers," said Jaworski.
"Mariota's stock, remember it was quiet for a while? And there's a reason for that. There's a lull every year until about 30 days before the draft. Now the coaches get involved. Prior to that, it's the scouts, it's the roadies that are filling out the paper work. Now the coaches get involved. Now team owners get involved. Now general managers get involved. So you're starting to see, in my opinion, Winston's stock starting to slide a little bit and Mariota's stock starting to go up a little bit."
I'll remind you that Jaworski was the one at ESPN that said he wouldn't select Johnny Manziel within the first 3 rounds of last year's draft last February before ranking Manziel ahead of Teddy Bridgewater less than 2 months later. He also said that Colin Kaepernick will end up as the best quarterback in NFL history.
I think Ron Jaworski is probably a nice guy, but unfortunately for him, he's gained the reputation of throwing out big statements to get everyone talking about him. Pardon me if I plan to wait until someone a little more reputable says the Bucs will take Mariota to start thinking it is a real possibility.
With Jaworski's latest proclamation, this might end up being the biggest endorsement for the Bucs to draft Jameis Winston yet.Subscribe to The Commish Online Podcast on iTunes!
