Lavonte David Falls to 56 on Top 100 List

Lavonte David might have slipped in the NFL's Top 100 List, but is he primed to breakout in a big way in 2015?

It shouldn't come as any surprise that Bucs LB Lavonte David made the NFL's Top 100 List of the 100 best players in the NFL as voted on by the players. What is a little disappointing is the drop David had from last year to this year.

A year ago, Lavonte David was coming off a season full of impact plays with 7 sacks and 5 interceptions. David's play in Greg Schiano's defense earned him the 35th spot in the NFL's Top 100 list. After a year in Lovie Smith's defense that produced just one sack and no interceptions, David slipped to 56th on the list of 100.

I recently named Lavonte David as one of my breakout players for 2015. Some Bucs fans were upset that I would have David on the list, citing his excellence on the field already. Lavonte David is one of my favorite players to watch, but I feel he might take his game to a whole new level in 2015. He has had a full year under Lovie Smith to full grasp and understand what is being asked of him. I also think that this is a prime year, being his 4th season, for David to take a very strong leadership role. This could be the year where the Bucs' defense goes from being McCoy's defense to becoming Lavonte David's defense.

One thing that McCoy and David have lacked early on in their career are splash impact plays to win games. The player who starts to rack those plays up quicker will take control of a defense that's on the cusp of being very good by NFL standards.
