If you are a Mike Glennon supporter, you might want to temper your enthusiasm here. Recently, the Tampa Tribune's Roy Cummings said that Mike Glennon had looked like the better quarterback up to this point in the off-season. Lovie Smith let us know on Tuesday that Jameis Winston will be the Bucs starter when training camp rolls around.
"I have a plan and a part of that plan is for Jameis to get a certain amount of reps with certain guys," Lovie Smith said when asked about giving Jameis Winston as many reps as possible. "He’s gone with the ones, he’s gone with the twos. At the same time it’s not just about Jameis. We need to get our backup quarterback ready too.”
That is as blunt as Lovie Smith could be regarding the Bucs' quarterback position. As expected, Jameis Winston will enter training camp as the Bucs starting quarterback. As Lovie said, they've had to get their backup, Mike Glennon, ready too.
Being the first overall selection in a draft to a team desperate for a quarterback, it should be no surprise that player becomes an instant starter. From the moment Jameis Winston's name was read by Roger Goodell as that top pick in the NFL Draft, the safe assumption was that was the moment he become the Bucs' starting quarterback.Subscribe to The Commish Online Podcast on iTunes!
