With 52 days until the Bucs line up against another team for the 1st time in the preseason, we can look back 52 weeks to a forgotten player who was in the Bucs' starting lineup.
We tend to forget that former USF Bull Mike Jenkins was one of the Bucs' two starting cornerbacks when the Bucs opened against the Panthers last season. Jenkins was matched up against Kevin Benjamin, who ended up having a strong day with 6 catches for 92 yards and a touchdown grab over Jenkins.
Mike Jenkins ended up missing the remainder of the 2014 season with a pectoral muscle. However, the Buccaneers did resign Jenkins to another 1-year contract during the off-season.
Personally, I'd be surprised to see Jenkins surpass either Alterraun Verner or Johnthan Banks for a starting spot, but Jenkins' presence adds much-needed depth to a position that lacked depth last season.
With the return of Mike Jenkins and the signing of Sterling Moore as a potential nickel corner, local good guy Leonard Johnson's roster spot might finally have to be given up as the Bucs build talent and depth on their roster.Subscribe to The Commish Online Podcast on iTunes!
