If there has been a strength of the Bucs defensive line, it has been on the interior. Obviously, Gerald McCoy is a great talent. Clinton McDonald brings experience, leadership, and an understanding of his role as a nose tackle. However, the addition of Henry Melton could be a difference maker in the entire defense.
To be honest, there's likely only one main decision that needs to be made with the defensive tackles.
Here is our prediction on how the DTs might be categorized:
Gerald McCoy - McCoy just signed his new deal and is one of the better defensive tackles in football. Hopefully 2015 is the season he starts making impact plays in the 2nd half to actually win the Bucs some games.
Clinton McDonald - McDonald came to the Bucs from Seattle last off-season and lived up to expectations. He is the Bucs starting nose tackle.
Henry Melton - One of the Bucs newest faces may be the Bucs best weapon in 2015. Melton's ability to make impact plays could take the Bucs' defense to the next level.
On the Bubble
Akeem Spence - Spence is likely the Bucs' only big decision at defensive tackle. Last season, the Bucs rode with just 3 defensive tackles. With McCoy, McDonald, and Melton already roster locks, you wonder if the Bucs would still roll with just 3 DTs this season. I think the odds are in Spence's favor that the Bucs keep him and 4 DTs this season.
