I've never been a fan of the slogan "It's a Bucs Life." I thought, from its inception, that it was a lazy ripoff of Disney's "It's a Pirates Life for Me." During the slogan's extended lifespan, the Buccaneers have become one of the biggest jokes in the NFL that culminated with a 2-14 record in 2014 and the top pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.
It appears as if the "Bucs Life" is finally dead.
On my way to my office this morning, I noticed a strange billboard decked out in the colors red, white, and black. It only said one phrase:
"The Siege is Coming"
I immediately thought it had to do with the Buccaneers, so I tweeted about it. I immediately got a response telling me to go to the site jointhesiege.com. To my surprise, there was a whole presentation capped off with a countdown clock that ends at 4:25 on September 13th. That just so happens to be the kickoff time for the Bucs regular season opener against the Tennessee Titans.
The Buccaneers have not responded to me yet, but don't be mistaken, the Buccaneers are not only looking to put a "siege" on the opposition, but they also want to kill off the past six years. Killing off the slogan that is linked most to those lost years with "The Siege is Coming" should get Bucs fans excited that their marketing department finally has a better grasp of what gets football fans truly excited.
I've been wanting to type this out for a long time...The Bucs Life is officially dead!
