Winston Struggles in Blitz Drill at Practice

Quarterback Jameis Winston continues to struggle at training camp.

It was another day where rookie quarterback Jameis Winston struggled on the practice fields of One Buc Place. There were passes that sailed and a couple that were intercepted. But these are growing pains the 21-year-old will have to overcome.

Speaking to the media after Day 4 of training camp, Winston talked about quickly forgetting mistakes.

“You have to get better every single day,” Winston said. “No one’s perfect.”

Winston, like yesterday, would eventually settle in. He hit rookie receiver Kenny Bell on a couple outs, Vincent Jackson in stride on a perfect crossing route, then dropped a dime out to his intended receiver along the sidelines. However, mistakes have stood out more -- like the interception he threw right into the chest of linebacker Lavonte David.

There has been inconsistencies from Tampa Bay’s first overall selection but that is to be expected. Head coach Lovie Smith confirmed at his presser that the defense is throwing several different looks at Winston, which will only help him get better down the road.
