The Bucs had everything going right for them in Monday night's win over the Bengals. The offense was efficient, the defense was creating turnovers, and the return game came alive. The only thing that did go wrong for the Bucs was Mike Evans leaving the game early due to a hamstring injury.
The good news is that his injury does not appear to be serious.
"I talked to him in the fourth quarter and he didn’t think it was that serious," Lovie Smith said after the Bucs 25-11 win over the Bengals on Monday night. "We wanted to get our ones (starters) into the second quarter and then get them out. We’ll kind of see how it goes with Mike."
Mike Evans has yet to catch a pass in the preseason, and now, he might not be playing much in the Bucs' final two preseason games. I wouldn't be too concerned though. Mike Evans and Jameis Winston have been working hard together in practice on a daily basis. If Evans could put up the type of numbers he did last year with Josh McCown throwing him the football, he should be able to duplicate that with a much better quarterback at the helm.
Lovie Smith announced Tuesday afternoon that Mike Evans will be out for the remainder of the preseason with that hamstring injury. He also said, "If a guy has a hamstring injury, they're going to be out a while."
